Last Cast Squad News - Team Meetings, Venues, Matches.

 This will be teams of 5 this year. Dates are as follows, all Sundays:

All money to be collected in a single pot across the series, and shared across all ten anglers at the end.

Well done everyone for winning promotion to Division 1 on Saturday. We finished 9th in the Division 2 National, qualifying by 6 points. A great team performance. 

We’ll have to up our game next year, especially in the practising department (some would be a start!).

Next year’s details are as follows:

Pentax Division 1 National - River Huntspill and King’s Sedgemoor Drain. Date is Saturday September 6th.

The Division 2 National on Saturday 1st September has been switched from the Trent due to safety concerns after the flooding. The new venues are:

 - Foss Dyke canal (6 sections)

 - Worksop canal (4 Sections)

The HQ has also changed, and is now at Newark Showground. Some sections are 40 minutes drive from the Showground. I am still awaiting new booklets from the NFA, and have no further information, but will send the stuff out as soon as I get it.

Can’t say I’m too upset at the switch - I think its the right move.

I am currently thinking about the team for this event. I will annouce the team by Friday 13th April, and then we will start to look at practice dates.

I have paid the deposit, and renamed the team with the NFA so that it is now Team Last Cast, rather than Last Cast AS as was previously.

Bad day for us on Saturday gents. We had two section winners in Pete Mercer and Pete Woodruffe, but were well beaten on the day. No Wembley appearance for us this year!

This will take place this Friday 16th February at Suez, Cudmore. We will have a knock-up, and then go back to cafe for a brew afterwards. Draw will be 9am, fishing 10.30am until 3.30pm. £5 entry plus whatever peg fee Vic/Frank charges us. Attendees so far:

We are going to have a practice for Round 1 of the VDE Supercup. This will take place on Friday 16th February at Suez, Cudmore. Please let me know if you can attend. Dont worry if you can’t because of work.

Getting on to Suez to practice at the weekends is difficult, because obviously it is used for Opens. Basically, you have to take pot luck and enter the open, and hope you draw on Suez. The alternative is for us to book Suez for a Saturday, but we will need to take quite a few pegs to justify this. Let me know if you are interested in doing this, and we can see if it is viable.

So basically you need to get two answers to me: 1) can you fish on Friday Feb 16th? and 2) do you want me to investigate booking Suez for a Saturday (or are you happy fishing the opens)?

Our round 1 match against Urmston and Boathouse is now to be fished on Saturday 24th February, on the Suez canal at Cudmore. It is teams of 8 and our team is as follows:

Reserve is Pete Jones. This is the team for the first round, and should we progress to the next round, it may change.

Bloodworm and joker are banned. Frank at Cudmore has agreed to give us the whole of Suez, so with 24 anglers and 50 pegs, we should be able to double-peg it. We’ll sort this nearer the time. The tie will be decided on points, not weight, with anglers in sections of 3.

I plan to organise a practice, but with Suez having matches on most Saturdays and Sundays, this may be difficult. Will keep you posted. Col.

Have just heard from the captain of Boathouse. They cannot now make Feb 17th. Therefore we plan to shift it back one week to Sat Feb 24th.

Will try to speak to captain of Urmston tonight, and then Frank at Cudmore tomorrow, to re-arrange. Please check if you are available for following Saturday ie Sat 24th Feb.

The next squad meeting will be 8pm on evening of Thursday 15th February - venue to be confirmed. Try to make it please. Col.

As you know, we have drawn at home against Urmston AA and Boathouse AS. The tie will take place on Saturday 17th February at Cudmore. It will be teams of 8, with 3 anglers in each section, with the top angler scoring 3 points, second angler 2, and third angler 1. I’ve now spoken to both captains - friendly blokes so it should be a good day.

I’m going to ring Vic/Frank at Cudmore to see what lakes are available on that day, and as soon as its booked, I’ll let everyone know. Please let me know if you are available to fish, either by posting a message, sending an email, or phoning me on 07767 601564.

This is a club competition, and we need to respect the spirit of it, so sponsored anglers such as Andy and Darren will not be invited to fish.

All the above is provisional, subject to confirmation once I’ve spoken to Cudmore. Will keep you posted.

We have been drawn at home in the first round, against Urmston AA and Boathouse AA. I will contact the respective captains in the New Year to get the match organised.

The tie has to be fished before March 4th, and we have yet to agree the number of anglers fishing. I think we will take them to Cudmore but have not decided yet. Will keep you posted. Col. 

Because of our Weaver commitments we have missed the first two rounds of this, so will be starting the league late.

Close but not close enough gents. Last Cast Red finished third and Last Cast Blue finished fourth overall in the league, with Hazel Grove (formerly Edgeley Sports) finishing comfortable winners, havind led from the start. There were 16 teams in total.

On balance, not bad considering we didn’t have one team, let alone two, a week before the league started. But, we have the anglers capable of winning, so the message for next year is 1) we need to practice, and 2) we need to get our first choice anglers out every week.

 I think all the lads that have come in have made a good contribution, and the squad is now undoubtedly stronger than it was. We picked up over £600 as a squad. So thanks for your efforts, and roll-on next year.

Here we go lads. Last push for the title this Sunday December 3rd, at Winsford. With a decent draw Red team can still win it, so give it everything. Sean is back but Pete Mulheir is away so Craig Ebbrell will stand in.

Blue team are out of the chase, so they should fish for the money.

Cash total stands at £445 across the two teams, so far. Money will be dished out at the end. See you there.

Next year’s National is on the River Trent. The date is 1st September. We will be entering a team. This is likely to be a feeder-dominated match, and we need to start preparation early.
