Team Last-Cast - North West Match Fishing Squad

Fanatical About Fishing - We Learn From Each Other, Improve, and Enjoy Ourselves

Neil Lloyd and Peter Jones - ready for action

Welcome to last-cast.com, the club site of match fishing squad Team Last Cast. The squad was formed in 2000, and is made up of match anglers from the North West who have come together to learn from each other, improve, enjoy themselves, and compete at the highest level.

This website is designed to enable squad members to exchange information, check on dates and commitments, and communicate with each other. Non-members are more than welcome to visit the site. If you want to send us a message please do so. If you are interested in joining the squad, please see the Want to Join? section.

Thanks for visiting.

History

The original roots of team lie in the Van den Eynde Northern Select Youth team of the early 1990's, managed by Chris Durrant. This squad was put together to ensure that young North West anglers got a look-in when it came to selection of the England Youth Teams. Trials were organised, and the best young anglers recruited into the squad. As this crop of anglers grew up, the squad became Van den Eynde Northern Select, and later switched sponsors to Whizzo. In the year 2001, the squad became Team Last Cast, and in 2006 Colin Mercer took over as manager.

Geography ⁄ Venues

Most of the squad are based in the North West of England, specifically the Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire areas. Target venues include Browning Cudmore, and the River Weaver, and squad members regularly fish festivals, usually Whiteacres in Cornwall.

Want to join?

Most of the squad are open-standard anglers, with several regularly topping 20+ Kamasan points a year. That said, we also have younger, and less experienced anglers in the squad, and will sometimes enter 'development teams' into a match series, to enable team members to learn about a venue and develop their skills. To join the Last Cast squad, the following characteristics are essential. You must be:

  • Extremely keen, fanatical about fishing.
  • Totally reliable. If you are the kind of angler who decides to stay in bed if it's blowing a gale, or frozen over, don't contact us.
  • Able to get on with others.
  • Willing to share everything you have learned with team colleagues.
  • Willing to communicate regularly, either by phone, email or face to face.
  • Able to deal with being dropped from the team for a particular match or series.
  • Supportive of colleagues who have blown-out, rather than blaming them.
  • Genuinely committed to improving your match fishing.

If this sounds like you, contact manager Colin Mercer by emailing him on colin@last-cast.co.uk.
